The Conquistadors & Allies (Tlaxcallans & Tarascans)

28mm Pewter Figurines : Packs contain 8 foot figures or 4 mounted (or otherwise described)

Tlaxcaltecs (Tlaxcallans and Tarascans) who ultimately allied with the Spanish Conquistadors after years of fighting the Triple Alliance - again, many of the codes can also be used for other 'Aztec' (or Meso-American if you prefer) tribes of the area. NB : The Tlaxcallans also awarded the Eagle and Jaguar Knight costumes - use the figures from the Aztec range.

If you need inspiring on the period, visit Neil Burt (and friends) 'The Feathered Serpent project' gallery - this shows the making of the Seige of Technotitlan display game that they have put on at a number of wargame conventions, it includes pictures of our figures and those of other manufacturers along with some fantastic scenery - it is truly awe inspiring click here for to link to it

Not the best photos I'm afraid - my attempt at using an ink wash to bring out the features just seems to make them look dirty! They should show you the poses though - although you cannot see them that well, Martin's faces continue to be superb.

The Negotiators Alvarado (front view)
Alvarado (rear view)
CONS1 The 'Negotiators' set : Malinche(Dona Marina), Ordas (one of Cortes Lieutenants), Alvarado, Dominican Friar. I liked the Alvarado figure so much, a couple of close up pictures are included. The dress for all of these figures are taken from contemporary paintings done back in Spain so are probably 'embellished' from what was actually worn, however they were likely to wear their 'best gear' when dealing with Meso-American Nobility so it seemed appropriate to do them as shown.
It struck me that some of these figures could be used in RPG style games as characters - individual personality figures are £1.25 each (the seated figure is 1.50)

CONS2 : Slaves / Cimaroons CONS2 : Slaves / Cimaroons CONS2 Slaves / Cimaroons : As slaves, these negro or half caste peoples were used by most of the European 'adventurers' in Meso-America as expendable troops. They supplied their own weapons or picked up what they could from their dead masters or opponents. The Cimaroons were escaped Spanish slaves who formed their own colony and famously assisted Francis Drake in fighting their former masters.
6 variants with various weapons are supplied
The first picture is of all the variants followed by a close up of the first three.

Brigandine Brigandine

CONS5

Brigandine (large resin ship) modelled on contemporary pictures of the ships built by the Conquistadors to attack the Aztec Island city of Tenochtitlan. The ship can be used for many scenarios - it is 14 inches long, 5 inches wide and 2.75 inches high at the stern. It has elevated front and rear decks with lower middle deck. Made in resin, although not light, it is now under 1 kilo in weight. - it is supplied without masts etc, but these can be easily added by a moderately skilled modeller.

The pics were provided by Neil Burt, who created the original model which we had cast in resin. He added the masts sails etc. painted them and took the photos against some of his beautiful scenary. Although we aren't all gifted with Neil's skill, the pics show just what can be done with the base ship ..... with a bit of work (!) The shields are ours, rope and carronades come from Eureka I think.

All Tlaxcaltec Captains and Priest of Cholula : I thought you might like to see the whole display vignette done by Neil Burt - it will take pride of place on the stand at shows! Tlaxcallan commanders and Priest of Cholula priceless!
This tribe fought the Aztecs for well over 50 years before the Spanish arrived and were never beaten by them. Surprisingly, the Aztecs asked them for help to fight the Spanish and (not surprisingly) the Tarascans sent the emissaries heads back as a reply! They submitted to Spanish rule in 1521 after the Aztecs were defeated and were used to supress many other tribes. Considered to be the most tactically astute of the Meso-american peoples, the Tarascans were renouned for their archery skill and often acted as mercenaries for one side or another in Tribal wars(especially for the Tlaxcallans against the Aztecs). The range includes Valiant men (Elite) peculiar to the Tarascans but it is also likely that Jaguar and Eagle warriors formed part of their army make-up, see the Aztec range for suitable figures
