Jonathan Wild 1683 - 1725 (Mounted) The self proclaimed 'Thief Taker General of Great Britain and Ireland'. A really nasty piece of work, as much of a bad guy as the Highwaymen he 'brought to justice' - whose stolen items he kept and either fenced or repatriated to their original owners at a price. He was finally arrested for 'procuring the return of stolen items', found guilty and taken to Tyburn and hung after afailed suicide attempt by taking laudanum. |
